Schools on Snow – Atlantic offers a wide range of outdoor winter activities for your school community. From Alpine Skiing to Snowboarding, Cross-Country Skiing to Snowshoeing, there’s something for everyone. Led by experienced staff and instructors, we prioritize safety and fun for your students. As you begin planning, take a look at these Tips & Tricks that can help you prepare for a successful school trip experience.

  • Be knowledgeable about your school board and school’s protocols when planning off-site field trips.
  • Contact the snow resort you are considering for their safety policies and protocols.
  • Review the Alpine and Cross-County Responsibility Codes.
  • Learning outdoors provides all kinds of exciting opportunities to support the teaching of provincial curriculum. We invite you to check out the Schools on Snow – Atlantic Lesson Plan Page [hyperlink to lesson plans]. Here you will find activities for all grade levels linked to the following:

  • Being outside provides the opportunity to support learning outcomes with real life examples, thus creating deeper connections to school subjects. Check out the recommended curated Schools on Snow resources and supports for educators on our Access the Outdoors page.
  • You’ve booked your Schools on Snow experience – great! While every Schools on Snow resort is unique, here is what you can expect during your day. Share this with the school staff, students and their families so everyone is in the know:
    • Your bus will be met by a representative from the Schools on Snow resort.
    • Students will be greeted and guided to a dedicated area where they can store their belongings for the day.
    • Students will be fitted for equipment by trained rental staff.
    • Students will be guided to the beginner centre where instructor/student ratios will be maintained.
    • Lessons with a qualified instructor, who will guide the student through the basics of the activity.
    • Schools will be responsible to be aware of appropriate supervision levels for the activity the students are participating in. Please check with your school board for current guidelines and policies.
    • Lunch and warm-up breaks will occur in a designated area. Some resorts include lunch for Schools on Snow participants.
    • You will board your bus at the end of the day and head home.
  • Whether your students are winter sport enthusiasts or participating for the first time, we recommend sharing these videos with both students and their families prior to their Schools on Snow experience:

ABOUT SCHOOLS ON SNOW - ATLANTIC

Schools on Snow – Atlantic is an initiative led by the Atlantic Canada Snow Resort Association (ASRA) in collaboration with the Canadian Ski Council. Our aim is to promote and facilitate snow resort activities for all students, ensuring equal access for everyone. We provide Atlantic Canada curriculum-aligned lesson plans, as well as resources and strategies to support educators and students on school trips. Our goal is to remove barriers to access and make winter sports education more inclusive.
